All About Us

The Annex Harker Heights Group - a bunch of concerned citizens that first met in 2009 at a backyard BBQ. After the keg was half empty the conversation turned to our city of residence - Killeen. Suprisingly we found that our thoughts on Killeen were pretty similar. Although we liked the city enough to settle here, there were a lot of aspects that we found troubling. We were losing our businesses to the new Harker Heights Shopping Center. Traffic is terribly horrendous and our city council is doing nothing about it. New neighborhoods consisted of lower end housing with unsightly 4-plexes leading the parade. In other words, we came up with a long list of things that could be improved.

The more we thought about it - the solution to Killeen's problems seemed more and more obvious. We need to Annex Harker Heights. Since it is already considered Killeen's "Bedroom Community" we might as well take the final step and annex the place. As outlined on our home page there are numerous reasons this would be beneficial and we have listed just a small number of those.

After annexation our city limits (which know no bounds, remember?) would stretch from the post to the lake. Our visual image around the nation would improve with the addition of the Harker Heights hills. On our home page we also pointed out the percentage of HH households with incomes over $100,000. Annexation would increase our sales, and property taxes, allowing us to pay for our new police station and the Butterfly / Herb Garden / Downtown Renovation Boondoggle (total cost approaching $7 million) that our council saddled us with. (BAD CITY COUNCIL) To sweeten the deal we could vote in HH's progressive mayor and council. Oooops, we forgot - then there would be no Billy Workman. HOOAHH !!

So - let's get this thing rolling and truly make Killeen one of the better places to live in Texas. Free flowing traffic, diligent enforcement of traffic codes, plant those trees, pride in homeownership, entertainment options for both families and our young troops, progressive leadership and enough money to do all of those things.
