Killeen is called "scruffy", "ugly",
a "ghetto" and a "dump". It calls itself the "City
without Limits" because anything goes as far as developers and
businesses that take advantage of our soldiers.
Harker Heights is often called the "Shiny
City on the Hills" and considers itself the "Bright Star of Central
Texas". .
They say that Killeen is nothing but another "GI Town" where the "Lower
Ranks" live.
Harker Heights has more Colonels and Generals per square
mile than anyplace else in Texas.
Killeen has an old mall with stores featuring merchandise
that they can't sell in other parts of Texas. (Compare
stuff in Killeen Dillards with Austin Dillards, or even Temple Dillards.)
Harker Heights has a state-of-the-art shopping center.
In fact, several of our stores left Killeen to move to the Harker Heights
shopping center.
Killeen has more Pawn Shops and Payday Loan places than Austin.
Harker Heights has .... well, I guess we beat them on this one.
Killeen has a city council that is only good for laughs.

Harker Heights has a progressive city council and
a Mayor that have a forward looking agenda.
Killeen's sales tax is falling fast.
Harker Heights' sales tax is growing even in these
tough financial times.
Killeen has a $2+ million building that is unsuitable
for anything except a butterfly museum and Herb Garden after a $4 million
renovation - WoW that will revitalize Downtown which is going through
it's FIFTH Downtown Revitalization Project.
Harker Heights has beautiful parks with actual sidewalks, access to Stillhouse
Lake, and LOTS OF TREES.
Killeen city council and real estate developers have
not met a tree they like. Every subdivision has it's standing trees razed.
At one point the city considered a plan to have new businesses plant
a tree for every 10 parking spaces. WHAT HAPPENED?
Harker Heights abounds in trees, making for a pleasant
impression on the eyes.
Killeen has Billy
Workman on the City Council.
Harker Heights doesn't. Enough
said.
Killeen's council members
are afraid to post their home addresses on their web site.
